Performance Metrics of Coronavirus Tests

• Sensitivity: The ability of the test to correctly identify those with the disease. RT-PCR tests: 85-95%, Antigen tests: 50-80%.
• Specificity: The ability of the test to correctly identify those without the disease. Both RT-PCR and antigen tests: 95-100%.
• Turnaround Time: Depends on the test; RT-PCR tests typically take longer (24-72 hours) compared to antigen tests (15-30 minutes).

Several companies provide testing solutions for human coronavirus detection:

1. Roche Diagnostics

Roche offers the Cobas® SARS-CoV-2 test. It has a sensitivity of 95% and a specificity of 98%.

2. Abbott Laboratories

Abbott provides the BinaxNOW COVID-19 Antigen Self Test, noted for its ease of use and rapid results within 15 minutes.

3. Thermo Fisher Scientific

Thermo Fisher’s TaqPath™ COVID‑19 Combo Kit is a RT-PCR test with a high sensitivity rate reported at 98.3%.
